What's with people who define their political, religious, or moral views based on what someone else believes? For example, a lot of religious people run their own lives, and all too often other people's, based on what their sacred texts ordain. They think anything Jesus, Muhammad, or what have you abhorred is something they should abhor themselves without critically evaluating it. You see the same pattern in a lot of political ideologues; they even name their ideologies after their political idols, be they Karl Marx, Vladimir Lenin, or Thomas Jefferson. That I find especially annoying, because when you name your political or philosophical theory after someone else, the name tells me less about WHAT you believe than WHOM you're getting your beliefs from.

I have no problem with admiring certain individuals or seeing them as inspirational, but I don't like it when people try to align their opinions with others' just because those others are popular or famous. Everyone is flawed, even the people we respect, so doing simply what a certain someone else would do doesn't guarantee doing the right thing all the time. We should do what we consider right based on our own reason, not conformity with our idols.
